Invisalign® & ClearCorrect Q & A

What are Invisalign® and ClearCorrect?

Invisalign® and ClearCorrect are orthodontic treatment systems that uses removable plastic aligners (trays that slip over your teeth) instead of brackets and wires to shift teeth into alignment over time. Invisalign® and ClearCorrect can be used to treat most types of alignment issues in both teens and adults who want to avoid metal braces.

How do Invisalign® and ClearCorrect compare to metal braces?

Invisalign® and ClearCorrect use clear aligners that are almost invisible while being worn to help patients feel more confident during treatment. Plus, they're completely smooth, so they're more comfortable than metal braces which can irritate the slips and cheeks with sharp wires and brackets. Invisalign® and ClearCorrect aligners can be removed, making it much easier to brush and floss. Clear aligners also enable patients to eat the food they love without worrying about the dietary restrictions associated with metal braces. The clear aligners are custom-created for each patient,so  treatment can often be much faster compared to metal braces, typically being completed in 18 months or less.

What happens during the Invisalign® and ClearCorrect treatment process?

When a patient comes into the office for their Invisalign or ClearCorrect consultation, Dr. Lukman will assess the complexity of the case and refer the patient out to a specialist if needed. If it has been determined that Dr. Lukman will take your case and the Invisalign® system or the ClearCorrect system is a good choice for your alignment needs, your treatment will begin with impressions and measurements which will be sent to the lab where your series of aligners will be made. At the lab, special computer software will be used to scan your impressions and create a series of three-dimensional models of your teeth, showing the movements your teeth would have to make over time to become aligned and straight. Then, the aligners will be manufactured using these models. Aligners are worn in a specific sequence to keep teeth moving in the right directions. During treatment, each aligner will be worn for about two weeks before moving to the next aligner in the series. You'll come into the office about every six weeks for a checkup to ensure your treatment is progressing well.
